Birthplace: Claiborne County, Tennessee Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Hazel M. Hinkle, age 87, of Emerson, Iowa, and her friend, Gladys F. Bowen, age 78, of Imogene, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 in a car accident in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Hazel Marie Hinkle was born March 28, 1924 in Claiborne County, Tennessee the daughter of James Albert and Roxie (Parrott) Davis. After attending school, Hazel worked as a Nurse at the TB Hospital in Tennessee. She was united in marriage to Charlie Hinkle on June 26, 1945 in Jellico, Tennessee. Hazel worked at the hospital until 1958 when her daughter Donna was born. Hazel's husband, Charlie passed away in March of 1986 and in 1988 she moved to South Dakota to be near Donna. Hazel eventually made her home with Donna and that brought them all to Emerson, Iowa. Hazel attended Oaks Community Church and was active with the Emerson Senior Citizens. Her greatest enjoyment came from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Charlie Hinkle in 1986; an infant brother; brothers: Everett and Lincoln Davis; and son-in-law: Rev. Paul Shores. Survivors include her daughter: Donna Shores of Emerson, Iowa; grandchildren: Angela Carman and husband Thomas of Papillion, Nebraska; C. David Shores and wife Stacey of Dover, Deleware; Christopher Shores and wife Kari of Omaha, Nebraska; and Samantha Shores of Council Bluffs, Iowa; great grandchildren: Logan, Abigail, Langdon, and Ellia Raine Shores; and Stephanie Ann Carman; brother: James Benjamin Davis of Knoxville, Tennessee; sisters: Pauline Anderson of Ohio; Betty Mays of Michigan; and Beulah Holman of Tennessee; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service for Hazel Hinkle and Gladys Bowen will be held 10 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Faith Community Church in Red Oak. Burial for Hazel and Gladys will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the families will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials for Gladys are suggested to the Oaks Community Church and memorials for Hazel are suggested to the American Heart Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
