Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Clute, Texas Harriet Ada Frank was born January 2, 1915 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Clint and Eva (Illingworth) Frank. She was the third of eight children. She lived on two different farms in her early years, and began attending country school at the age of five, where she spent the first year sitting on the teacher's lap. The family moved to town when Harriet was seven. She had a strong work ethic and started cooking occasionally for the family at the age of eight. By the age of twelve, she was working in the homes of others. She married Clyde Wheeler, the boy next door, on January 2, 1931. Their son John (Jack) was born in September of 1931. Harriet and Clyde lived in various places in Red Oak and other towns in Iowa and also Omaha, Nebraska. James (Jim) was born in 1935, Jerold in 1946, and Debora (Deb) in 1947. Harriet and Clyde moved to Omaha the final time in 1943. Harriet began working for Omaha Public Schools in 1959 moving from pastry helper to manager of the largest high school until her retirement in 1977. She also served as president of the Nebraska School Food Association. Harriet loved people and family. She corresponded for years with relatives all around the country in a round robin letter. She memorized hundreds of birthdays and anniversaries and never failed to send cards. Until recently she corresponded with many friends and relatives regularly. She traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. She took each of her grandchildren on trips and attended all important family gatherings. Harriet was the matriarch in both the Frank and Wheeler families and organized reunions over the years to bring relatives together. During her final years, she split her time staying part of the year with each of her children, always keeping busy with whatever she could help with in their homes. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; a son: Jerold; and dear friend: Harold Meek.
