Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Harold Eugene "Gene" Olson, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness. Harold Eugene "Gene" Olson was born January 29, 1927 near Stanton, Iowa the son Per Harold and Lillian (Thoren) Olson. Gene attended school in Stanton, Iowa and later served in the United States Navy during WWII. Upon his return from the war Gene was an over the road truck driver. He worked for Dale Clements and later Kinnison Truck Line. Gene was united in marriage to Isabel Patterson who preceded him in death. In 1970, Gene went to work for the Montgomery County Secondary Roads Department retiring in 1990. He was united in marriage to Fern Smith on August 25, 1973 in Red Oak, Iowa. Gene was a baptized and confirmed member of the Mission Covenant Church in Stanton, the Red Oak Eagles Aerie 2715; the Eagles Charity Riders; and the Rangers Motorcycle Club of Omaha, Nebraska. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Isabel; son: Rodger Olson; son-in-law: Mike Dial; grandsons: Bobby Hall and Caleb Dial; step-son: Ronald Smith; and step-grandson: Tim Stupp. Survivors include his wife: Fern Olson of the Villisca Good Samaritan Center; children: Scott Larson and wife Kathy of Carson, Iowa; Carroll Olson and wife Peggy of Baxter, Iowa; Brenda Hall and husband Robert of Treynor, Iowa; Larry Olson of Great Bend, Kansas; Kathy Johnson and husband Lloyd of Great Bend, Kansas; and Candice Dial and fiancé Robert Carpenter of Hastings, Iowa; step-children: Carolyn Templeton and husband Glen of Villisca, Iowa; Marie Stupp of Stanhope, Iowa; Steve Stevens and wife Shelly of Craig, Missouri; Jerry Patterson and wife Gerry of Bellevue, Nebraska; Susan Perkins and husband Jess of Hastings, Iowa; and Sandra Larson and husband Lambert of Gretna, Nebraska; 44 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Wayne Olson and wife Rose of Columbus, Ohio; and Carol Olson and wife Marinna of Derwood, Missouri; the children's mothers: Eloise Larson and Joyce Noah; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 27, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, June 26, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Rescue Unit, the Villisca Good Samaritan Center, or the First Covenant Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
