Birthplace: Humansville, Missouri Resided In: Platte City, Missouri Harold Meek, age 96, of Platte City, Missouri formerly of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Hillview Nursing Facility in Platte City, Missouri. Harold Meek was born January 8, 1912 in Humansville, Missouri the son of Grover Cleveland and Wilma Eldora (Schoonover) Meek. As a young boy the family moved to Iowa and Harold graduated high school in Red Oak, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy from 1931 until 1935 and then began a long career with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division of the IRS. Harold was united in marriage to Grace Ellen Langdon on April 25, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa. Over the years they lived in Omaha, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Atlanta before moving to Washington D.C. While in Washington D.C. Harold was Chief of the Permissive Branch of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Division of the Internal Revenue Service. Harold and Grace retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas and then Grace preceded him in death in 1981. Harold made his home in Bella Vista until about a year ago when he moved to Hillview Nursing Facility in Platte City, Missouri where he was closer to family. Harold was a member of the Bella Vista Christian Church, the Lake Harriett Lodge #277 AF & AM, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Bella Vista. He enjoyed hunting, fishing trips to Minnesota, puttering in his basement, and spending time with his family. They always had a good time as a family going to the Bella Vista Craft Fair. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife: Grace in 1981; brother: Vern Meek; and sisters: Rose Roeder and Hazel McBride. Survivors include his children: Paula Scott and husband Richard of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Stephen Meek and wife Ysleta of Leavenworth, Kansas; and Linda Honse and husband Thomas of New Ulm, Minnesota; grandchildren: Lisbeth Bednarek and husband Andrew of Herndon, Virginia; Thomas Scott of Portland, Oregon; Kristin Meek of Kansas City, Missouri; Chanda Meek of Fairbanks, Alaska; Steven Honse and wife Kristin of New Ulm, Minnesota; and Catherine Le and husband Paracpl of the Washington, D.C. area; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Charity of your choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
