Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Wales, Iowa Harold Jenkins, age 92, of Wales, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Harold Richard Jenkins was born May 2, 1913 on the family farm at Wales, Iowa the son of David and Silvia (Maxwell) Jenkins. He graduated from Wales High School in 1931 and later served in Company M of the Iowa National Guard during WWII. He was a prisoner of war from February of 1943 until April of 1945. Upon his return to Wales he began a farming career of which he has never really retired. Harold was united in marriage to Eleanor Thomas on November 29, 1945 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Eleanor preceded him in death on September 4, 2003. He was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church and the Henderson American Legion Post. Harold enjoyed sporting events, attending ball games of his children and grandchildren, state basketball tournaments, playing cards, mowing with his Ford tractor, vacations with his wife and sisters; visiting with neighbors, and many years of picking corn with his friend Harold Hughes whom he served with during WWII and was a longtime neighbor in the Wales community. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Eleanor Jenkins; and his sister: Hazel "Bunny" Jones. Survivors include his three sons: Darry Jenkins and friend Linda Jay of Wales, Iowa; Don Jenkins and wife Nancy of Atlantic, Iowa; and Bryan Jenkins and wife Trudy of Wales, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Lori Bullivant and husband Joe of Chicago, Illinois; Lisa Jenkins of Charlotte, North Carolina; Rick Jenkins and wife Lisa of Red Oak, Iowa; Marla Jenkins of Omaha, Nebraska; Amy Bisenius and husband Adam of Holstein, Iowa; Alan, Angie, and Emily Jenkins all of Atlantic, Iowa; Jana Adams and husband Brandon of Elliott, Iowa; David Jenkins and wife Corrine of Red Oak, Iowa; and Daniel Jenkins of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: Chloey, Ashley, Olivia, Abbigail, Brooklyn, and Madeline; sister: Hellen Bonfy of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Wales Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Gomer Cemetery at Wales with military graveside rites. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, July 25, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Wales Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
