Birthplace: Rural Hastings, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Harold Culver, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa. Harold Shaw Culver was born September 22, 1912 on a farm southeast of Hastings, Iowa the son of Dallas and Bess (Shaw) Culver. He was raised on a farm near Hastings, Iowa and attended the North Grove School. Harold later graduated from the Tabor High School in 1931. After high school Harold farmed near Hastings, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Pauline Potter on November 20, 1939 in Papillion, Nebraska. Harold built B-26's and B-29's for Martin Aircraft both in California and Bellevue, Nebraska during the war. He was a team leader for the modification of the Enola Gay, which carried the Atomic Bomb to Japan. Harold and Pauline moved to the current homestead, where they farmed all of their lives, in 1947. Pauline preceded Harold in death on November 23, 2001. Harold had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center since April of 2002. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother: Marion Culver; and sister: Fern Beals. Survivors include his 2 sons: Dallas Culver and his wife Roxanne of Red Oak, Iowa; and Richard Culver of Atlantic, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Julie Ehlers and her special friend Joe Herbert of Cumberland, Iowa; Joni Ernst and her husband Gail of Red Oak, Iowa; Wade Culver and his wife Melissa of Red Oak, Iowa; Jesseca Kearney and her husband Jeremy of Red Oak, Iowa; Betsy Adams and her husband Eddie of Red Oak, Iowa; Bess, Clara, and Dallas Culver all of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren: Dawson Culver and Elizabeth Ernst both of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with burial to be at a later date in the Hastings, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation and viewing with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Historical Society or the Red Oak Rescue Unit. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
