Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Harold W. Baird, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday October 6, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center in Red Oak after an extended illness. Harold Willard Baird was born March 5, 1915 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of James Willard and Viola Effie (Flood) Baird. He attended school in Red Oak and started farming after high school. Harold was united in marriage to Martha Stephens on August 31, 1938 in Davis City, Iowa. They lived all over Iowa while Harold worked for the Gooch Seed Company for 25 years and later the Trojan Seed Company. They moved back to Red Oak, Iowa in 1973 and Harold worked for the Farmers Mercantile Lumber Company retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Trustee and was also a long time member of the Red Oak Lions Club. Preceding him in death were his parents; sons: James Baird and Richard Baird; and sister: Edith Barr. Survivors include his wife of 71 years: Martha Baird of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Donald Baird and wife Donna of Arvada, Colorado; daughter-in-law: Bernice Baird of Villisca, Iowa; Dick's companion of many years: Debbie Anderson of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Stephanie Bell of Littleton, Colorado; Amanda Saiz of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Teresa Baird of Comanche, Texas; great grandchildren: Justin, Katie, Lindsey, Andrew, Ashley, Jordan, Corey, Christian, and Kayden; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
