Gregg Glen Peters, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at CHI Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Gregg was born October 1, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois where he was raised until he moved to McHenry, Illinois. He was the son of Melvin "Pete" and Marjorie (Stockley) Peters. He graduated from McHenry High School. He was united in marriage to Denise Sperry on May 29, 1968, in Cary, Illinois. Over the years he worked in Fox River Grove and later Crystal Lake where he worked for TC Industries as a supervisor. After many years Gregg and Denise moved to Arkansas where they operated a country store for five years before retiring. Denise passed away in 2015 and Gregg moved to Council Bluffs until moving to Red Oak in 2017. He lived at Acorn Acres and served on Acorn Acres board of directors at one time. He was known to be quite a gamer at Acorn Acres, always enjoying Wii Bowling. He loved video games, history, and was a movie buff. Gregg had a great sense of humor and knew no strangers. He was also a member of the Red Oak Senior Citizens, volunteered at the Grand Theater, and called Bingo during the Montgomery County Fair.
He is survived by his daughter: Leah Eldridge and husband David of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: CJ Souther; Sabrynna Eldridge; Sharadyn Eldridge; and Jace Souther; great grandchildren: Brycen and Emersyn Eldridge; sister: Susie Torgeson and husband Gerry of New Glarus, Wisconsin; brother: Keith Peters and wife Carol of Minocqua, Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, four sister-in-law; and other relatives and many friends.
A celebration of life and service will be held from 2-4 PM Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Acorn Acres Large Community Room in Red Oak. Burial will be held on August 8, 2025, at the Windridge Cemetery in Cary, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Senior Center.
LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
