Obituary

Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Searcy, AR Grant Ashby, age 80, of Searcy, Arkansas formerly of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Franciscan-Skemp Health Care Center in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Grant Ellis Ashby was born August 29, 1924 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Glen and Hattie (McMillen) Ashby. He graduated from Red Oak, High School in 1942 and attended Central College for one year. Grant then served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return from the war he worked for Browns Shoe Fit Company in Red Oak and later Warrensburg, Missouri before moving back to Red Oak to farm. He farmed until 1965 when he moved to Adel, Iowa where he operated the Farmland Co-op in Waukee, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Nancy Evans Moser on July 8, 1966. Grant retired in 1985 and moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas in 1986. For the past six years Grant and Nancy lived in Searcy, Arkansas. Grant was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay and the American Legion in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a former member of the Lions Club. Grant was preceded in death by his parents; a son: David Moser in 1974; and his sister: Jeanette Van Westen. Survivors include his wife: Nancy Ashby of Onalaska, Wisconsin; two sons: Michael Ashby and wife Linda of Fripp Island, South Carolina; and Dennis Ashby and wife Jan of San Jose, California; four daughters: Patricia Norman and husband Lee of Seattle, Washington; Vicki Ashby of Champlin, Minnesota; Sue Wilson and husband Rob of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and Sara Bartlett and husband Terry of Christiansburg, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister: Glendora Wubker of Green Valley, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
