Gordon Lewis Steiner was born November 15, 1941, in Henderson, Iowa. He died April 12, 2026, of heart failure due to Alzheimer’s in New Richmond WI and will be buried at Farm Creek Cemetery near Henderson where his parents, brother and several other relations are also laid to rest.
Lewis was the second son of Eloise and Gordon Steiner of Henderson IA. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Henderson HS and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Electrical Engineering. He married Judy Viner on Dec. 5, 1959, and had two children, Annette and Michael. His career moved them from Iowa to MN, then CA, and MA.
Lewis was an electrical engineer for Honeywell in Minneapolis with a top-secret federal clearance working on guidance systems for the Apollo Space Program. He later became a hardware engineer in the computer division in California. Lewis received many awards and had several patents from his long computer engineering career.
Lewis was a talented singer, a jokester, and often cheated at board games. He held many leadership positions at the Methodist Church in Milford MA where he also sang in the choir. He enjoyed square dancing, walking with neighbors, reading science magazines, playing Sudoku and all the pets that graced the household. Lewis enjoyed traveling to different countries and tropical islands for work and leisure and made time to visit all 50 states.
Lewis and Judy retired to Wisconsin in 2005 to play with grandchildren, grow flowers in the yard, and watch birds. Together they enjoyed parties, Steiner reunions, vacations, and weddings during retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon T. Steiner and B. Eloise Steiner, Sister Kay Roberts and Brother Steve Steiner.
Lewis is survived by his wife Judy of New Richmond, his daughter: Annette of Hollywood, California; his son: Michael and wife Ruth and grandchildren: Kadie and Max of New Richmond Wisconsin; his sister: Susan Deitchler and husband Douglas and family of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister: Mary Norris and husband Steve and family of Omaha Nebraska; his brother: Phillip Steiner, of Omaha, Nebraska; and sister-in-law: Dixie Steiner of Henderson, Iowa.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10 am at Farm Creek Cemetery near Henderson, Iowa with a luncheon to follow at the Community Building, 310 Maple Street, in Henderson, Iowa, beginning at 11:30 am.
LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
