Birthplace: Rural Montgomery County, IA Resided In: Council Bluffs, IA Gordon Elmer Kasch, age 85, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Gordon was born January 14, 1929 in rural Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Elmer Lawrence and Flora Mae (Johnson) Kasch. He was raised in Montgomery County where he started farming at a young age. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War period and then returned home where he drove a truck for Halvin Trucking from 1953-1958. He was united in marriage to Eleanore "Ellie" Kingston on May 29, 1958 in Logan, Iowa. Gordon drove a truck for P.I.E. and Consolidated Freight for many years. He and Ellie lived in many different places over the years including, Omaha, Nebraska, Minden, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas where he retired in 1997. They moved back to Minden in 2002 and Council Bluffs in 2011. Gordon had been a member of the Minden United Church of Christ for many years, currently a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, and the Minden, Iowa American Legion Post #437 having served as Vice Commander. Gordon loved playing cards, sports, game shows including Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right, word search puzzles, dancing and traveling. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Betty Jane DeWitt and Beryl Kasch; and nephew: Greg DeWitt. Survivors include his wife: Ellie Kasch of Council Bluffs; children: Tonya Meyer and husband David of Thaxton, VA; Tamra Ruff and husband Bruce of rural Emerson, IA; and Jeffrey Kasch and wife Grace of Port Orchard, WA; grandchildren: Anna Kasch of Port Orchard, WA; Elizabeth Kasch of Gig Harbor, WA; Melanie Kasch of Port Orchard, WA; Charlie Ruff of rural Emerson, IA; and Natalie Meyer of Thaxton, VA; great granddaughter: Maddison Tawney of Gig Harbor, WA; sisters: Marilyn Kahler of Minden, IA and Marge Thielen of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. A memorial fund is being established in Gordon's memory. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
