Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Gordon Lester Hill, age 69, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away December 31, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gordon was born April 20, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Lester and Betty (Bates) Hill. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1964 and Universal Technical School in 1965 with a specialty in auto mechanics. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War serving until 1968. Gordon was united in marriage to Rebecca Seeley on April 27, 1968 in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Griswold and later moved to the family farm where they farmed for 21 years. Gordon then started work for US West and he and Becky also owned and operated the Chuck Wagon Drive Inn Restaurant in Griswold. They moved to Carroll in 1991 with Gordon's work. After 15 years, Gordon retired from Qwest and they moved to Red Oak. He was a longtime member of the Elliott United Methodist Church. Gordon enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and enjoyed shooting and gunsmithing. Gordon was a sports enthusiast and in his younger years played softball for the Elliott Blue Sox. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Rebecca Hill of Red Oak, IA; children: Charlotte Smith and husband Ken of Shenandoah, IA; Aaron Hill and wife Paula of Red Oak, IA; and Drew Hill and wife Melanie of Polk City, IA; grandchildren: Tamara Leither, Jasmine Smith, Ryan Niccoli, Carly Niccoli, Jeremy Musland, Melissa Weeks, Shelby Musland, Rylie Hill, Isaac Hill, and Ella Hill; 7 great grandchildren; brother: Larry Hill and wife Peggy of Eagle Grove, IA; sister: Kelly Fort and husband Jeff of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law: Pam Towne and husband Jerry of Henderson, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 10 AM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Elliott United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Gordon's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
