Birthplace: Essex, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Glenn A. Carlson, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Essex, Iowa passed away Friday, October 5, 2001 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Glenn Allen Carlson was born April 23, 1908 on a farm near Essex, Iowa the son of Johannes and Jennie Carlson. He graduated from the Essex High School and has lived all of his life near Essex, Iowa. On June 10, 1931 Glenn was united in marriage to Lucille Hoxie in Imogene, Iowa. They farmed until 1956 when he went to work for the Page County Assessors office. Glenn went on to work for the State of Iowa in the Property Tax Division retiring in 1971. After retiring He and Lucille wintered in Texas for 15 years. Lucille preceded him in death on December 31, 1990. Glenn was a member of the Essex Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher. He was also the secretary for the Rural School District for 25 years, president of the Page County Farm Bureau, 50 year member of the Essex Masonic Lodge, and was a founding member of the Essex Senior Citizens. Glenn also helped reorganize the Essex Telephone Company. Survivors include his daughter: Carolyn Confer and her husband Glen of Essex, Iowa; son: Jerry Carlson and his wife Jill of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Erik Carlson and his wife Jeanene of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jennie Rosio and her husband Joe of San Antonio, Texas; Stephanie Larson and her husband Mark of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Teresa Bartlett of Keokuk, Iowa; Becky Lade and her husband Tom of Ankeny, Iowa; and Chris Confer and his wife Diane of Watuaga, Texas; 9 great grandchildren: Blake and Terry Carlson; Joey Rosio; Cheyenne Larson; Corrie and Garrett Lade; Sabrina Confer; and Kyle and Amanda Cashion; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, October 8, 2001 at the Essex Presbyterian Church in Essex, Iowa with the Rev. Mark Woldruff officiating. Interment of Ashes will be in the Essex, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Sunday, October 7, 2001 at the Regency Retirement Center in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Essex Presbyterian Church or the Public Libraries of Essex and Red Oak for the Talking Book Libraries. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
