Birthplace: Macedonia, IA Resided In: Henderson, IA Glenn D. "Bud" Brown age 77 of Henderson, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. Bud was born July 9, 1940 in Old Town Macedonia in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the oldest son of Glenn and Ava Moss Brown. He grew up on a farm south of Henderson and attended Henderson Consolidated Schools graduating with the class of 1958. Bud married his high school sweetheart. Alice Rieken, on November 25, 1961, their marriage was blessed with two children, Steven Glenn and Tamara Ann. Their entire lives have been spent living in and serving the Henderson community. Bud served as a 4-H leader and was an active long-time member of the Henderson Fire Department. Bud worked as a young farmhand for neighbors, especially Marvin Bowen, and he worked at the Mills County Soil Conservation office in Malvern. He drove a tank wagon, worked at the Oakland lumberyard and helped construct the packing plant north of Oakland. He bought his first dozer in 1964 and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southwest Iowa Conservation District in 2016. Steve joined his dad shortly after high school graduation and they have operated Brownco Services until the time of Bud's death. In 1990, Bud and Alice became the owners of the historic Henderson rodeo grounds. Bud used this as a base for his and Steve's Black Angus cattle herd. Besides his family and his cattle, some of Bud's other favorites included: Pepsi, visiting with folks, Fords, his dogs, playing cards, auctions and collecting guns and coins. Bud was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and beloved Aunt Merrian Moss Kadel. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice; son, Steve and wife Susan of Henderson; daughter, Tamara Bass of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren: Bradley Bass of Omaha, Nebraska and Kayla Everett and husband Tyler of Tallahassee, Florida; brothers: Monty Brown and wife Vickie of Huxley, Iowa; and David Brown and wife Tammy of Oskaloosa, Iowa; sister: Cora Hughes and husband Bob of Emerson, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Karen Rieken Jones of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bette Rieken Byers and husband Terry of Henderson, Iowa; brother-in-law: Leo Rieken and wife Donna of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other faithful family and friends and his best buddy, Winston. Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 - 8PM Friday, January 26, 2018 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Henderson Community Fire Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
