Birthplace: Rural Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa formerly Elliott and Griswold, Iowa Glen H. Palmer, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly Griswold and Elliott, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak after an extended illness. Glen Hamilton Palmer was born February 28, 1927 on a farm near Griswold, Iowa the son of Ernest and Susie (Blain) Palmer. He was raised in the Griswold area and attended Griswold Schools. He farmed for many years on the farm where he was born. He was united in marriage to Frances Cocklin on March 10, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They lived near Griswold until 1963 when they moved into Griswold. In 1970 Glen and Frances moved to Elliott, Iowa where Glen worked for the City of Elliott for many years. Most recently Glen had been living in Griswold before becoming a resident of the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak. Glen was a former member of the National Farmers Organization. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Frances on June 11, 1998; son: Larry Von Cocklin in 1995; grandson: Larry Von Cocklin, Jr. in 1966; and 7 brothers: Darrell, Wayne, Marion, Bill, Shorty, Allen, and Ernest. Survivors include his son: Roger Cocklin and wife Donnette of Glenwood, Iowa; daughter: Rickey Caton and husband Jim of Ankeny, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Pat Cocklin of Vilonia, Arkansas; sisters-in-law: Claire Palmer, Lily Palmer, and Opal Palmer all of Oakland, Iowa and Janice Palmer of Bloomington, Illinois; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
