Birthplace: Avoca, Iowa Resided In: Arlington, Virginia Glea Lassen, age 87, of Arlington, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at her residence in Arlington, Virginia after a sudden illness. Bernice Avilda "Glea" Lassen was born November 5, 1917 in Avoca, Iowa the daughter of Otto Claus and Hattie Anna (Poulsen) Lassen. She graduated from the Coburg, Iowa High School and attended Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska for one year. In the early 1940's Glea moved to Alexandria, Virginia and later to Arlington, Virginia where she lived in the same apartment for over 47 years. Glea worked at the Pentagon as a secretary in the library. She retired in 1973 after many years of service. Glea was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia where she sang in the choir. She loved photography and traveling and was a member of the National Geographic Association. Preceding her in death was her father: Otto Claus Lassen; mother: Hattie Anna Lassen Harding; step-father: Zearil Harding; 2 sisters: Hattie Zearilene Vanderhoof; and Ruth Strunge; 2 brothers: Walter Lassen; and Otto Lassen; 2 brothers-in-law: Keith "Bud" Vanderhoof; and Bill Strunge; 2 sisters-in-law: Myrle Lassen; and Marge Lassen. Survivors include her sister: Ardis Bangston and husband Howard of Villisca, Iowa; brother: John Harding and wife Janie of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law: Louise Lassen of Red Oak, Iowa; and Opal Strunge of Granite Bay, California; many nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 1-1:45 PM Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
