Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Omaha, Nebraska Gladys H. Schmidt, age 98, of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 11, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska after an extended illness. Gladys H. Schmidt was born September 6, 1905 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Minerva (Karnes) Confer. She was united in marriage to Emmitt McDowell on January 27, 1931 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Red Oak until 1941 when they moved to Clinton, Tennessee for 2 ½ years before moving to Kearney, Nebraska. Gladys was a homemaker and worked for 9 years at the hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Emmitt preceded her in death in August of 1963 at which time she moved back to Red Oak. Gladys was united in marriage to Walter Schmidt on December 2, 1965 in Rochester, Minnesota. Walter preceded her in death on July 9, 1978. Gladys then moved to Council Bluffs and later Omaha, Nebraska. She had most recently been a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center in Omaha. Gladys was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Omaha and the VFW Auxiliary in Red Oak. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother: John Confer; a daughter: Jeannene Good in May 2001; and a granddaughter: Julie in September of 2002. Survivors include her son-in-law: Robert Good and his wife Kay of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Richard Good and his wife Carol of Girard, Kansas; and Rita Loeffler and her husband Joe of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 great grandsons: Christopher DeRoffett and Lucas Conn; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, December 15, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marvin Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Westside Baptist Church in Omaha or the Hawthorne United Methodist Church in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
