Birthplace: Minneapolis, Kansas Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Gladys J. Davidson, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. Gladys Josephine Davidson was born July 11, 1926 in Minneapolis, Kansas the daughter of Guy and Elsie (Morris) Nordyke. She was raised in Kansas and Missouri graduating from high school in Missouri. Gladys was united in marriage to John Davidson on September 7, 1947 in Minneapolis, Kansas. They moved to Iowa where they farmed in the Wales Community all of their married life. John preceded Gladys in death in 1998 and Gladys moved into Red Oak in 1999. Currently she was a resident of the Stanton Care Center. Over the years, Gladys was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church, the Wales Ladies Aid, the Monday Club, and enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and the schools for many years. Gladys had many hobbies including square dancing, quilting, crocheting rugs and afghans, embroidery work, and watching birds, especially cardinals. Gladys was also known for being a wonderful cook who enjoyed baking bread, making homemade ice cream, doughnuts for Halloween, and she was always making cinnamon rolls for somebody's birthday. She also fed many work crews at the farm. Gladys spent most of her time enjoying her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband: John in 1998; one grandson; one granddaughter; and two great granddaughters. Survivors include her children: Vinson Davidson and wife Kathy of Greeley, CO; Jonette Otte and husband Vincent of Wales, IA; Beverly Evans and husband Ronald of Orem, UT; Mary Jo Gibbs and husband Dan of Olathe, KS; Kevin Davidson and wife Melissa of Wales, IA; and Kurtis Davidson and special friend: Kelly Cave of Red Oak, IA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother: Jesse Nordyke and wife Sandra of Minneapolis, KS; 3 brothers-in-law; 5 sisters-in-law; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Wales Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Gomer Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Wales Presbyterian Church or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
