Obituary

Birthplace: Elgin, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Gilbert H. Schrage, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Gilbert Henry Schrage was born November 28, 1917 in Elgin, Nebraska the son of Stephen and Philomene "Minnie" Schrage. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1935 and was united in marriage to Dorothy Jennings on September 16, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he and Dorothy made their home in Red Oak where Gilbert worked in the fertilizer and chemical business for many years retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Gilbert enjoyed golfing, nature, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Hubert and Art; and sister: Philomene. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Schrage of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Stephen Schrage and wife Karen of Pella, Iowa and Richard Schrage of Yuma, Arizona; grandchildren: Kirsten Schrage of Lorens, South Carolina; Laura Schrage of Bryce Canyon, Utah; and Anna Harmon and husband Ian of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers: Urvan Schrage and wife Celine of California and Albert Schrage and wife Mary Helen of Elgin, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 PM Monday, January 31, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library or the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
