Birthplace: Imogene, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Gerald Skahill, age 83, of Villisca, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness. Gerald Skahill was born July 13, 1924 in Imogene, Iowa the son of Thomas and Carmelita (Hughes) Skahill. He was raised near Imogene and started farming with his Dad at a young age. Gerald was united in marriage to Joyce Bateman on March 4, 1946 at St. Patrick's Church in Imogene. They moved to a farm near Villisca, Iowa in 1948 where they lived all of their married life before moving into Villisca in 1996. Gerald had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and also as a trustee. Over the years he was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Iowa Cattleman's Association, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Gerald loved watching baseball and going to the College World Series. He was an Iowa State Cyclone fan as well as an Atlanta Braves fan. He was particularly proud of his Irish heritage and was able to travel to Ireland in 1995. Gerald was most proud of his family. He was a "GREAT" husband, dad, and grandpa. He will be missed by all. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers: Kenneth and Patrick Skahill. Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Joyce Skahill of Villisca, Iowa; children: Jerry Skahill and wife Mary of Ames, Iowa; Judy Casey and husband Duane of Villisca, Iowa; Nancy Chapman and husband Don of Lenox, Iowa; Janet Scholey and husband Fred of Villisca, Iowa; Mike Skahill of Lenox, Iowa; Susan Lindberg and husband David of Clive, Iowa; Mark Skahill and wife Alyson of West Des Moines, Iowa; David Skahill and wife Elizabeth of Villisca, Iowa; and Donna Robinson and husband Jim of Villisca, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers: James Skahill and wife Marie of Glendora, California; Jack Skahill and wife Arlene of Covina, California; Thomas Skahill of Springfield, Missouri; and Francis Skahill of Pomona, California; sister: Bonnie Sturm of Shenandoah, Iowa; sister-in-law: Irene Lantz of Urbandale, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, November 12, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa. There will be a prayer service and recitation of rosary at 5:30 PM, Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Villisca or the Alegent Hospice of Corning, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
