Birthplace: Brush, Colorado Resided In: Emerson, Iowa George J. Bass, age 77, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004 at his farm near Emerson, Iowa. George J. Bass was born July 21, 1926 in Brush, Colorado the son of Irving and Martha (Peterson) Bass. At a very early age his family moved to Emerson, Iowa and he graduated from Emerson High School in 1944. After High School George joined the U. S. Navy and served in World War II. George was united in marriage to Ruby Durham on December 24, 1947 in Warsaw, Missouri. They lived all of their married life near Emerson, Iowa where George farmed and raised livestock. George was very active in the United Methodist Church in Emerson and a member of the Emerson American Legion, the Gideon's International , and served on the Emerson Cemetery Board. Preceding him in death were his parents; step-father: Warren Honeyman; wife: Ruby Bass on October 20, 2001; son: Stanley Bass; 2 sisters: Iva Gillespie; and Mary Parker; step-brother: Lee Honeyman. Survivors include: Children: Dave Bass and his wife Betty of Red Oak, Iowa; Jon Bass and his wife Deb of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jim Bass of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kathy Franzmeier of Clarion, Iowa; and Ken Bass and his wife Tami of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Kent, Amy, Suzanne, Tricia, Joni, Bradley, & Kayla Bass; and Laura Franzmeier; 1 brother: Wayne Bass and his wife Roberta of Eugene, Oregon; 1 sister-in-law: Shirley Honeyman of Emerson; 1 brother-in-law: Hadley Parker of Red Oak. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Emerson United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson American Legion or the Emerson Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
