Birthplace: Grant, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Genevieve Mae Baldwin was born November 14, 1913, in Grant, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Duckett) Dewees. She grew up in Grant, graduating from Grant High School in 1931. In 1933, she received a two-year teaching degree from Drake University, after which she took a job as an elementary teacher in Elliott, Iowa. It was in Elliott that she met her future husband, Milton V. Baldwin. Milton and Genevieve were married on January 1, 1938. Milton worked for the United Farmers' Mercantile Company, and the couple made their home in Red Oak where their first son, Richard Lee, was born in 1939. During the time Milton served in World War II, Genevieve taught in Red Oak's Washington Elementary School. The couple's second son, Robert Milton, was born in 1947. After Milt's health failed, Genevieve taught in Essex, and following his death in 1968, Genevieve worked in the dental office of Dr. Wolfe. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and active in its women's organizations, the Red Oak Mother's Club, and the Order of Eastern Star. Following several years of declining health, Genevieve became a resident of the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center in December 2007. She passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Milton. She is survived by two sons, Richard Baldwin and Sharon of Red Oak, and Robert Baldwin and Suzanne of Evergreen, Colorado; four grandchildren, Michael Baldwin and wife Tracy of Council Bluffs; Mark Baldwin of Aulhausen, Germany; Lindy Baldwin of Princeton, New Jersey; and Ross Baldwin of Boulder, Colorado; two great grandchildren, Macy and Talon Baldwin of Council Bluffs, Sharon's children, Scott Parrish and his children, Ashley and Skylar; and Anissa Batchelor and husband Darin and their daughter, Tinsley, all of Kansas City, Missouri; two cousins, Norma Gullickson of Keithsburg, Illinois and Leanna Hendrickson of St. Ansgar, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
