Birthplace: Henderson, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Gene Dobbs, age 75 of Emerson, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Gene Dobbs was born September 7, 1928 in Henderson, Iowa the son of Emmit and Mary (Clark) Dobbs. Gene was raised in Mills and Montgomery Counties. After school he started farming in the Coburg area and later moved to Red Oak where he worked for Halvin Trucking and Wilson Concrete. For a short time Gene served in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Colleen McMahon on December 4, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Red Oak until moving to Florida in 1972. Gene worked for a construction company until retiring in 1990. After retirement they moved to Big Lake in Missouri where they lived until moving to Emerson, Iowa in 1993. Gene was a member of the Pompano Beach Florida Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister: Maxine Bower. Survivors include his wife: Colleen Dobbs of Emerson, Iowa; son: Vaughn Dobbs of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 grandchildren: Nicholas Dobbs and wife Christina of Webb City, Missouri; and Jo Ellen Humphrey and husband Kwanza of Kansas City, Kansas; 2 great grandchildren: Alexander and Trinity Dobbs; 2 brothers: Donald Dobbs and wife Beryl of Red Oak, Iowa; and Keith Dobbs of New York City, New York; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. There will be open visitation at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
