Gary Lee Tye, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, at his home after an extended illness. Gary was born August 15, 1947, in Griswold, Iowa, the son of John and Patricia (Johnson) Tye. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1965 and attended mechanics school in Council Bluffs. He served in the United States Navy before being married to Ladonna Carlson on November 14, 1970, in Stanton, Iowa. He worked at Sid's John Deere Implement in Falls City, Nebraska before moving back to southwest Iowa in 1972 when he went to work for Harold and Ben Rolf on their family farm. Gary retired after 40 years of employment. After retirement, he worked for C & J Ag, hauled grain for Joe Hossle, and worked for Rex Hoffman. He was a member of Stratton United Methodist Church for many years and was a Boy Scout leader. His hobbies included Sudoku puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and collecting coins, cookie jars, toy tractors, and belt buckles.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother: Randy Tye. Survivors include his wife: Ladonna Tye of Red Oak; children: Cynthia Tye of Red Oak; William Tye and wife Angie of Cedar Falls, IA; and April Tye of Red Oak; grandchildren: Anthony Burk of Florida; Chance Schwartz of Red Oak; Jasmine Elwood of Red Oak; Foster Tye of Cedar Falls, IA; and Emersyn Tye of Cedar Falls, IA; sister: Laurie Williams and husband LeRoy of Winchester, KY; brother: Dan Tye of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law: Marty Tye of Ames, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
