Birthplace: Grinell, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Gary Lee Smithberg, age 53, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, at his home. Gary was born September 25, 1967 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Jerry, Sr. and Linda (Milligan) Smithberg. He was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Gary moved to Red Oak to be near family about 6 years ago. He worked for OSI in Oakland. His hobbies included watching football, especially Kansas City Chiefs, gardening, partying, and enjoying his cats. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and mother. Survivors include his father: Jerry Smithberg, Sr.; brother: Jerry Smithberg, Jr.; sister: Lori Smithberg, all of Red Oak, Iowa; aunt: Bobbie Milligan of Des Moines, Iowa; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
