December 25, 1945 – March 18, 2025
Gary Francis Hall, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital due to complications of pneumonia and cancer. Gary was born on December 25, 1945, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Francis and Betty (Moats) Hall. He graduated from Red Oak High School with the class of 1964. In high school, he was a star athlete excelling in track winning the "decathlon" his senior year. Gary served in the United States Navy from 1966 until 1969 serving two tours in Vietnam. Upon his return home from the service, he bought his "pride and joy", a blue 1969 corvette, which he still owns today. He was united in marriage to Cathy McKay on August 8, 1970, in Red Oak, Iowa. The were blessed with one son: Justin. The couple loved to dance and over the years took many dance lessons. Gary was a passionate bowler and, in his lifetime, bowled two "300" games and an "800" series. He also loved boating, water skiing, taking trips to Table Rock Lake, cruising in his car, and playing games. He was known to be very competitive in all board games. In 1986, the couple bought a bowling center in Tama, Iowa. They moved back to Red Oak in 1994, and Gary worked at TRACO until they closed. He also worked at Hunt's Super value, Hy-Vee, and Fareway.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his in-laws: Thomas and Carolyn McKay. Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Cathy Hall of Red Oak; son: Justin Hall and wife Mandy of Stanton, IA; siblings: Tim Hall and wife Evelyn of Peyton, CO; Marsha Bartles and husband Ronnie of Red Oak; and Ralph Hall of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law: Connie Larson of Red Oak; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the First Chrisitan Church with burial of the cremated remains to be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, March 28, 2025, at the First Christian Church. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
