Gary Duane Akers, age 57, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, at the CHI Health Nebraska Heart in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gary was born June 29, 1967, in Story City, Iowa, the son of Duane and Deloris (Hoops) Akers. He was raised on an acreage near Viking Lake at Stanton, Iowa. He attended Stanton Community Schools. Gary was united in marriage to Angela L. Akers on August 9, 1991, in Red Oak, Iowa. After marriage, they lived in many different places including Emerson, Villisca, Florida, Grant, and Stanton. Through the years, Gary worked many jobs including selling satellite TV, Mt. Arbor Nursery, appliance repair, setting big party tents, veterinary clinics in kennel management, maintenance repair, auto mechanic, butcher at Villisca Locker, and kennel management in Florida until he became disabled. His hobbies included classic cars and tinkering with cars. He was very intelligent and could fix anything. He loved comic books, music, and spending time with his grandkids.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Mercedes Skye Akers; brother: Randy Akers; niece: Danette Harman; nephew: Shuan Akers; and mother-in-law: Linda Curry. Survivors include his wife: Angela L. Akers; daughters: Summer Akers (Bailey Stringer) and Jessica Ferguson; son: Kodi Akers; grandchildren: Scarlett Stringer, Miles Stringer, Trinity Turner, Anthony McDaniel, Lillian McDaniel, and Christopher McDaniel; brother: Rick Akers; sisters: Deb Boyd and husband Chris and Angie Akers; nephew: David Harman and wife Mollee; great nephews and nieces: Shaun Akers, Kendall Globe, Decklyn Harman, Maggee Mae Harman, and Ava Lynn; uncles: Gary Hoops and wife Chris and Junior Akers and wife Edna; aunts: Kim Woodle, Deloris Williams, and Marilyn Hoops; father-in-law: Neal Curry and wife Karen; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
