Birthplace: Westboro, Missouri Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Frieda R. Howrey, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Frieda Rowena Howrey was born December 31, 1913 in Westboro, Missouri the daughter of Jerome and Frances (Daniels) Bain. She was raised in Westboro, Missouri where she graduated high school. Frieda was united in marriage to Marven Barlow on June 7, 1933. They farmed near Shambaugh, Iowa and also near Villisca, Iowa where they lived when Marven passed away on February 12, 1947. Frieda moved back to Westboro, Missouri to be near her family. Frieda was united in marriage to Glenn Howrey on November 9, 1957 in Maryville, Missouri. Glenn brought his 8 year old adopted daughter, Janet Sue to this marriage. They lived in Coin, Iowa until moving to Red Oak in 1961 where Glenn owned and operated the Standard Station on Broadway. Over the years Frieda worked at the high school in Westboro as a cook, the Woolworth Store in Shenandoah, Iowa, Red Oak High School where she was the head cook retiring in 1975, and later worked for the Hospital and the Holiday Inn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Frieda loved doing hand work including crocheting, knitting, tatting, and sewing. She loved yard work, working in her flower gardens, mowing the lawn, cooking, reading, and enjoyed visiting with neighbors. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Marven Barlow on February 12, 1947; her husband: Glenn Howrey on October 27, 1994; sons: Jerry Barlow on April 7, 1985 and Jim Barlow on May 2, 2002; an infant grandson; infant twin grandsons: Marven and Melvin Barlow; brothers: Merton and Rankin Bain; and sisters: Eunice Bain and Gertrude Smith. Survivors include her sons: Don Barlow and wife Luella of Omaha, Nebraska; and Randy Barlow of Omaha, Nebraska; step-daughter: Jan Burnison and husband Lowell of Red Oak, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Kathy Tauanuu and husband Leu of Omaha, NE; Cindy Johnson and husband Dave of Omaha, NE; Tim Barlow and wife Linda of Escondido, CA; Tom Barlow and wife Loretta of Escondido, Ca; Cuan Barlow of Minneapolis, MN; Kiet Barlow and wife Crystal of Minneapolis, MN; Kevin Barlow of Minneapolis, MN; Jody Barlow of Minneapolis, MN; Lori Melendrez and husband Rick of Arlington, TX; Linda Bayless and husband David of Arlington, TX; Jeff Burnison of Grimes, IA; and Jill Perdue and husband Brad of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 24 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
