Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Frederick Welsch, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at his home in Red Oak. Frederick Dean Welsch was born August 30, 1925 on the family farm near Elliott, Iowa the son of Harry and Edna (Hand) Welsch. He graduated from Elliott High School in 1943. Fred played baseball with the Boston Braves Minor League team for 2 years before returning home to farm. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Whiteaker on October 14, 1945 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They farmed in the Elliott area until 1962 when Fred attended Barber School. Fred was a barber in Stanton, Elliott, Emerson, and Red Oak for many years. Lorraine preceded him in death on April 22, 1987. Fred was later united in marriage to Regina Mainquist on December 26, 1987 in Red Oak, Iowa. Fred enjoyed playing baseball with the Elliott Blue Sox baseball team for many years. He also enjoyed gardening and was a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Lorraine; and brother: Charles on February 26, 1987. Survivors include his wife: Regina Welsch of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Elise Erickson and husband Gary of Longmont, Colorado; Jim Welsch and wife Marianne of Garner, Iowa; Fred Welsch and wife Sara of Elliott, Iowa; Malia Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; and Tricia Wiese of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Matthew Erickson and wife Annie of Kansas City, Missouri; Megan Erickson of Longmont, Colorado; Michael Erickson of College Station, Texas; Danika Welsch of Red Oak, Iowa; Melissa Randall and husband Roger of Red Oak, Iowa; Taylor Welsch of Elliott, Iowa; Samantha Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; Scott Wiese of Red Oak, Iowa; Brad Wiese of Omaha, Nebraska; and Brian Wiese of Omaha, Nebraska; 4 great grandchildren: Jakob Erickson of Omaha, Nebraska; Owen Erickson of Kansas City, Missouri; Brianna McNeil of Red Oak, Iowa; and Miranda Randall of Red Oak, Iowa; 3 step-children: Wilbur Mainquist of Red Oak, Iowa; Marlin Mainquist and wife Gloria of Stanton, Iowa; and Wanda Cooper and husband Larry of Wales, Iowa; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; sister: Margaret Miller and husband Max of Elliott, Iowa; sister-in-law: Betty Welsch of Elliott, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Walters and Pastor Francis Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
