Frank Alex Kerkhoff, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Frank was born on August 30, 1934, in Templeton, Iowa, the son of Alphons M. and Frances H. (Bluml) Kerkhoff. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1952. After graduating, he worked for the railroad and in agricultural sales. On November 5, 1955, Frank was united in marriage to Carole Miller in Carroll, Iowa. Frank then worked for Swanson Food and Campbells Soup where he worked in the information technology department as a pioneer in IT development. The family moved to Red Oak in 1958 where he purchased Belt Implement – John Deere, retiring after 30 years in the business. Over the years, Frank purchased nursing homes and retirement homes. At that time, he attended Southwestern Community College in Creston, earning his administrator's license. He also served in the National Guard for 8 years. Frank was a member of Mutual 20 Investment Club, Bridge Club, the Rainbow Coffee Club, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak and the Knights of Columbus. He was the oldest member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, skiing and spending his Tuesday evenings with his taco group at Stadium 34.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Shiela; brothers: Orville Kerkhoff, Meryl Kerkhoff and wife Imelda and David Kerkhoff; sister: Joan Tunink and husband Francis. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Carole Kerkhoff of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Cindy Johnson and husband Mark, Denise Cooper and husband Randy, and Julie Mellott and husband Rick all of Red Oak, Iowa; Steve Kerkhoff of San Jacinto, California; Neal Kerkhoff and wife Jill of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Lisa Kliver of Omaha, Nebraska; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister: Joyce Masching of Carroll, Iowa; sister-in-law: Dorothy Kerkhoff of Audubon, Iowa and Delores Kerkhoff of Carroll, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in the fellowship hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the Red Oak Elks Lodge renovation project, and the Knights of Columbus.
LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
