Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Frances "Maurine" Latimer Pleak, age 101, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. Frances "Maurine" Latimer Pleak was born March 24, 1908 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of M.E. "Ellsworth" and Emma (Ashby) Latimer. In 1910, she moved to the Griswold, Iowa area and attended school at Lewis. In 1920, her family moved to the Villisca area and later north of Stanton, Iowa. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1926 and attended Red Oak Junior College for one year. Maurine taught in rural schools and at Emerson, Iowa for two years. On February 15, 1934, Maurine was united in marriage to Charles "Chuck" Pleak and they resided on the farm south of Red Oak for sixty years. Their farm had been in the Latimer Estate and Pleak family since 1864. They moved into Red Oak in 1994. In 2002, Maurine moved to Arlington Place and then to the Stanton Care Center in October of 2008. Maurine's enjoyment and interest was in the farm and family: their sons, Leland, Lyle, and Ray. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the church women's society, Montgomery County Extension, Farm Bureau Women, served as a girls 4-H leader, and belonged to the neighborhood coffee club. Maurine was also an honorary member of the Montgomery County Rural Homemakers since 1960. Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Charles Pleak in 1994; two sons, Lyle in 1988 and Ray in 1996; sister, Hazel Redding; and brother, Harlan Latimer. She is survived by her son: Leland Pleak and wife Fran of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters-in-law: Georgiene Anderson and husband Bruce of Palm Harbor, Florida and Shari Miller and husband Vic of Harlan, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Greg Pleak, Doug Pleak and wife Denice, Katy Pleak, Teresa Collins and husband Gene, Erin Zea and husband Corbin, Courtney Sonderman and husband Jeff, and Ryan Pleak and wife Heather; twelve great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and ten step-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
