Red Oak, Iowa Frances "Colleen" McCunn, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Frances Colleen McCunn was born August 26, 1932 in New Sharon, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Frankie (Stansberry) Brown. She was raised in New Sharon where she attended school. At the age of 17, Colleen moved to Red Oak, Iowa and was united in marriage to Lyle Gene McCunn on August 13, 1950. Colleen was a full time homemaker raising her 4 daughters and spending many hour sewing, gardening, canning, and baking for her family. She was a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church and the UMW. In her younger days she was a member of the Stennett PTO and helped organize and lead a new 4-H group called the Lucky Charms. She was always involved in her kid's activities and sporting events. She and Lyle always enjoyed traveling in their motor home and taking trips.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Lyle McCunn on April 1, 1982; her brother: Dick Brown and her sister: Kay Hardy. Survivors include her daughters: Cathy Crowe and husband Terry of Red Oak, Iowa; Linda Huntington and husband Ted of Red Oak, Iowa; Cheri Marcum and husband James of Larkspur, Colorado; and Teresa Richardson and husband Jim of Boise, Idaho; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren; sister: Carolyn McCunn of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Don McCunn and wife Ardell of Massena, Iowa; Carroll "Newt" McCunn And wife Carolyn of Onawa, Iowa; Myron McCunn and wife Diane of Orion, Illinois; Marilyn Drennen and husband Sam of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Phyllis McCunn of Red Oak, Iowa; Betty McCunn of Greenfield, Iowa; Mary Lou McCunn of Red Oak, Iowa; Becky Taylor of Rockford, Illinois; and Darwin Larson of Glenwood, Iowa; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Dilley officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Care Center.
