Birthplace: Rural Lenox, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Frances Harold, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska as a result of a stroke. Frances Lucille Harold was born November 3, 1924 South of Lenox, Iowa in Taylor County the daughter of Frank and Marie (Crow) Keith. The family lived in Prescott, Iowa where Frances graduated high school in 1942. Frances worked in a drug store and a department store until 1945. She was united in marriage to Clifford Abbey in 1945. To this union were born two sons, Duane Lennis Abbey, born November, 1946, and Steven Francis Abbey, born March, 1950. Clifford preceded Frances in death in 1952 from Polio. Frances and the boys moved to Red Oak later that year. Frances was united in marriage to Stanley Harold in 1960 and to this union was born Tammie Sue Harold in December of 1962. Frances worked for two years at the F.W. Woolworth Company; three years at Ideal Pharmacy; five years at the Farmers Mercantile; one year at Mace and Hahn Implement; and 27 years at Iowa Power and Light where she had many friends. Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society Memorial Chairman, the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Christian Women, and the Retirees of Iowa Power and Light. Frances was preceded in death by her husband: Clifford Abbey in September of 1952; her father: Frank Keith in July of 1983; and her mother: Marie Keith in April of 2003. Survivors include her 2 sons: Duane Abbey and his wife Mary of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Steven Abbey and his wife Eva of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter: Tammie Harold and friend Roger Stoneking of Grant, Iowa; 2 grandchildren: Evan Abbey and his wife Kristen of Decorah, Iowa; and Kerin Abbey of Chesterfield, Missouri; 2 great grandchildren: Hailey and Zachariah Abbey; a special sister-in-law: Joan (Abbey) Crowell and her husband Bill of Des Moines, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel and also one hour prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
