Birthplace: Sioux City, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, IA formerly Red Oak, IA Frances Maxine Hamilton, 96, of the Stanton Care Center, died Saturday, April 2, 2011. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Red Oak, at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene N. Hamilton, a long-time biology teacher and coach at Red Oak High School; her son, John R. Hamilton; her brother, John W. "Jack" Larson; and her parents, Harold E. and Lillian M. (Anderson) Larson. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 21, 1915, and was a graduate of Central High School and Morningside College. After her marriage on October 20, 1937, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City, she and her husband lived in Chicago, Illinois, and Sibley, Iowa, before moving to Red Oak. She always called Red Oak, "such a nice little town," and was a staunch advocate for the entire Red Oak community. She enjoyed working at the Thos. D. Murphy Company for 21 years as an executive secretary. Fran had a passion for spectator sports as well as the game of golf. She attended countless ROHS sports' events and closely followed college and professional football, basketball, and baseball teams. She was a life-long member of the Red Oak Country Club, where she played golf competitively and won ROCC tournaments in 1953, 1969, and 1975. She also won the Southwest Iowa Women's Golden Girls' Association Tournaments in 1976 and again in 1980 when she shot an 83. She enjoyed the game until 2000, when she reached the age of 85. Fran was an avid bridge player, a skillful knitter of afghans and baby caps for the hospital, a long-time volunteer and board member at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, a member of the choir at Bethlehem Lutheran where she shared her beautiful soprano voice as well as her talents in other capacities. She was proud of her Swedish ancestry and delighted in her many friends and the pastimes in her life. She is survived by her sister, Harriette Larson McGuire, of Sioux City; her life-long best friend, Bunny Torrence, of Red Oak; her sister-in-law, Ouida Larson Olson, of Sioux City; five nieces, two nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; and her countless friends in the community.
