Birthplace: Montgomery County, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA Frances Lucille Carlson, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society. Frances was born September 11, 1920 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of L. Paul and Mabel (DeWitt) Lathrop. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1936 and attended Red Oak Junior College. She taught country school for four years and at Wales Lincoln School for 1 year. During this time she also attended Iowa State Teachers College. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked at Union Pacific until the time of her marriage to Glen L Carlson on March 20, 1946 in Pilot Grove Township on the Lathrop Family Farm. She was a homemaker for many years raising her family on the farm. In 1962, Frances started back to work at the JC Penney Company where she worked for many years. Frances was a past member of the First Covenant Church and Covenant Women. Currently Frances and Glen are devout members of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church where Frances was a member of Presbyterian Women. Over the years Frances enjoyed being a member of many different neighborhood clubs and was named Farm Bureau Homemaker of the Year. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister: L. Pauline Keener. Survivors include her husband: Glen L. Carlson of Red Oak; children: Susan Johnson (Richard) of Minneapolis, MN; Peggy Blackburn (Robert) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Roger Carlson (Kathy) of Red Oak; grandchildren: Lisa Ross (Michael) of Hendersonville, TN; Seth Johnson of Houston, TX; Ingrid Johnson (Rafael) of Querrataro, QR, Mexico; Ruth Johnson of Minneapolis; Emily Leutgeb (Daniel) of Minneapolis; Tim Blackburn (Michele) of Sioux Falls; Todd Blackburn of Yankton, SD; Paul Blackburn (Sarah) of Jacksonville, AR; Kelly Osheim (Josh) of Red Oak; Tony Carlson (Alix) of Red Oak; Jessie Carlson of Red Oak; and Amanda Carlson of Shenandoah, IA; 12 great grandchildren; sister: Mary Helen Peterson of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Pastor Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7:30 pm Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
