Floyd Randall (Randy) Bowen of Hastings, IA briefly of Essex, IA and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away peacefully September 4, 2026, at the family farm in rural Hastings. Born November 15, 1954, in Red Oak Iowa to Floyd Bowen and Virginia McKinney Bowen. He spent his elementary and high school years attending Strahan Elementary and Nishna Valley High School. He graduated with the Class of 1973. Randall was in cub scouts, school plays and musicals but mostly caused issues for teachers. Classes and grades were not a priority. He had other plans like pranks and skipping school. Randall loved every aspect of the farm but preferred the animals over learning from Dad in the garage. Often escaping to the barn or chicken house. He had many strays he cared for such as owls, racoons, hatching pheasant eggs on the heating pad after rescuing the nest after mowing hay ended Mama’s demise. Chickens were his beloved even housing them in his OKC dining room so he could talk to them every morning and evening. Much to everyone’s dislike. High school health issues prevented him from farming, so he attended the College School of Beauty in Shenandoah, IA. This opened a lifetime of opportunities and memories in Oklahoma City for forty-five years. There he worked in restaurants and selling shoes while building his clientele as a barber and hairdresser. He worked in various shops, out of his home, in nursing homes, and finally travelling to people’s homes to provide cosmetology services. He also sat with the elderly in the evenings providing care and comfort so they could stay in their own home. In his free time, he enjoyed going out with friends, attending church, going to thrift stores (some sketchy ones), antiquing, watching OU football, Thunder basketball, and movies, which he taped many shows and series. Most of all he loved his family. He enjoyed their visits, surprise or otherwise, but grumbled to make you think he didn’t, teasing all of them, often shouting “Leave me alone” when they returned the favor and he provided the material. Phone calls, especially Mom’s, even though she refused to say, “I love you” back, and she got him good when she and Sherri made a video with her saying, “Love you Sherri” while laughing and saying, “Sorry Randall.” His response was, “That Old Bird!” Also, his late-night calls from Amanda just to chat, even though he had to work at 5 am. Randall never knew a stranger and made memories with everyone he knew.

Preceding him in death was his parents Floyd and Virginia Bowen; his infant brother Gerald Edwin Bowen, niece Lindsay Stoehr, maternal and paternal grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and beloved customers.

Randall is survived by his siblings; Kathy Doyle and husband Pat of Imogene, IA; Dave Bowen and companion Sue McDonald of Malvern, IA; Cindy Stoehr and husband Doug of Forsyth, MO; and Sherri Nissen and husband Jerry of Prescott, IA; nieces and nephews: Chris Doyle and wife Rosie of Bloomington, IL; Jenny Wuebker and husband Randy of Lorimor, IA; Patrick Doyle and wife Brooke of Emerson, IA; Josh Bowen and wife Laura of Imogene, IA; Nathan Bowen and wife Bailey of Hastings, IA; Bryan Bowen and wife Kylie of Red Oak, IA; Eric Stoehr of Springfield, MO; Jessica Trautz and husband Michael of Orlando, FL; Alyssa Dea and husband Dalton of Walnut, IA; Amanda Nissen of Creston, IA; and Reagan Eubank of Red Oak, IA; great nieces and nephews: Morgan and Isaac Phillips; Kate and Fiona Doyle; Taylor and Ciara Purdy-King; Nate and Emma Purdy; Blake, Abbie, Cy, and Kenzie Wuebker; Madison Doyle and fiancé Trevor Carroll; Payton, Kirby, and Dakota Doyle; Molly, Emma, Boyd, Nole, and Zane Bowen; Kymber and Connor Stoehr; Whittaker Trautz; Eden and Anderson Dea; Liam & Aidan Eubank; and Griffin & Paige Eubank; great great nephew: Henry Purdy; great great niece: Kimberly Purdy-King; aunt: Janice Duysen of LaPorte City, IA; special Maher family; as well as Teri and Sheri Fritz, Michael Marks, and Linda Hull; and many other relatives and friends.

The family is asking everyone to wear OU, Thunder, Chicken, or Safari attire. The crazier the better.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery in Henderson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, September 11, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
