Birthplace: Nodaway, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Floyd W. Hamman, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society after an extended illness. Floyd William Hamman was born January 22, 1926, near Nodaway, Iowa, the son of Earny and Leona (Rascher) Hamman. He graduated from Nodaway High School in 1943 and entered the United States Army Air Corp in 1944 as a belly gunner in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Upon his return home; he worked on the family farm. On April 6, 1947 united in marriage to Dorothy Greenfield at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, Iowa. They lived in Red Oak for one year where Floyd worked for the Army surplus store before being transferred to Perry, Iowa. Within months they moved back to Red Oak where Floyd worked as a route salesman and was District Supervisor for Curtis Candy Company. He later worked for Fresh Pack Candy and Shari Candy before starting his own business, Hamman Wholesale Candy and Vending until 1976. Floyd also worked for Nishna Valley Monument Company, Vannausdle Construction Company, and Earl May Seed. Floyd later operated his own landscaping business during this time. He was a Charter member of both the Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Red Oak Optimist Club. He served as Lt. Governor and later Governor of Iowa Optimist . He was an American Legion member, VFW member, a member of Lutheran Laymen League, and served on the Red Oak City Council. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Roland Hamman. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hamman of Red Oak; children: Kathy Inman and husband Doug of Colorado Springs, CO; Karen Beaty and husband Tom of St. Charles, MO, and Kenny Hamman and wife Bev of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Stephanie Jones of Needville, TX; Kristen Smith of Houston, TX; Matthew Beaty and wife Ashley of Fayetteville, NC; Jason Hamman and wife Rebecca of Meridian, MS; Angela McCoy and husband Josh of York, NE; and Brian Hamman and wife Meredith of Red Oak, IA; 14 great-grandchildren: 1 great-great grandchild; brother: Olin Hamman of Nodaway, IA; sister-in-law, Pearl Hamman of Boone, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Jerry Greenfield and wife Carol of Villisca, IA, and Ed Greenfield of Villisca, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, Iowa. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak with military honors. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, Iowa Hospice, or the Red Oak Optimist Club. A luncheon will be held at the Red Oak Fire Department meeting room following the interment. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
