Birthplace: Coin, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Flossie K. Schurr, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Flossie Kathryn Schurr was born July 6, 1935 in Coin, Iowa the daughter of William Henry and Gladys Pauline (Kinman) Thorn. She attended school in Coin, Iowa. On September 12, 1953 Flossie was united in marriage to Sterling Eugene Schurr. They lived in Shenandoah and later Red Oak. Flossie worked for Union Carbide Corporation for many years retiring in 1980. She moved to Colorado for a short time before moving to Atlantic, Iowa where she worked at ALCO and also W.R. Grace Company which became Walnut Grove. Flossie moved back to Red Oak in 1996 and later made her home at Acorn Acres. Flossie enjoyed sewing and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Sterling Eugene Schurr; siblings: Marie Swigart, Thelma Shadduck, Tom Thorn, Violet Miller, Nancy Smith, and Darlene Major. Survivors include her children: Marlene Youngberg and husband Lloyd of Red Oak, Iowa and Darwin Schurr and special friend Ashley of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren: Bobbi Roeder and husband Justin of Essex, Iowa; Mindy Youngberg of Red Oak, Iowa; Jennifer Barnes of Underwood, Iowa; and Cale Haley of Red Oak, Iowa; great grandchildren: Chase and Carson Roeder of Essex, Iowa; sisters: Hazel Watts of Atlantic, Iowa and Pauline Moore of Scappoose, Oregon; sisters-in-law: Nina Thorn Christofano of Denver, Colorado and Glenda Schurr of Dale City, Virginia; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Hastings, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
