Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Fern Slump Rogers, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Monday October 6, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Merle "Fern" Slump Rogers was born October 25, 1909 in Lincoln Township of Montgomery County nears Wales, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Pearl (Stewart) Steiner. She was raised in the Wales area and graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in 1927. Fern was united in marriage to Merrill Slump on February 12, 1930. They lived on the Slump family farm south of Henderson and then moved to the farm east of Henderson. In 1948 Fern and Merrill moved into Red Oak. Merrill preceded Fern in death in 1949. She was later united in marriage to Jack Rogers in 1970. They traveled and spent their winters in Arizona. Fern moved to Regency in 1990 and then to the Good Samaritan Care Center where she has lived for the past 4 years. Jack preceded her in death in 1999. Fern was a former member of the Monday Club and the Order of Eastern Star. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son: Jack Slump in 2003; and a brother: Gordon Steiner. Survivors include her 2 sons: Richard Slump and his wife Delores of Sioux City, Iowa; and DeLaine Slump and his wife Neva of Henderson, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Carole Slump of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 step children: Tom Rogers and his wife Mary Lou of Griswold, Iowa; and Betty Schaffer of Grant, Iowa; many grandchildren including; John "Russ" Slump and his wife Peggy of Sioux City, Iowa; Nancy Forbes and her husband David of Atlanta, Georgia; Merill Slump and his wife Judy of Henderson, Iowa; Darry Slump and his wife Mary of Henderson, Iowa; Debbie Deskin and her husband Doug of Urbandale, Iowa; Chet Slump and his wife Kelly of Omaha, Nebraska; Cindy Mina and her husband John of Portland, Maine; Kris Robson and her husband Rory of Urbandale, Iowa; Jeff Slump of Des Moines, Iowa; Ronald Gates and his wife Rose of Mitchell, South Dakota; and Earla Tutor and her husband William of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; many great grandchildren; sisters: Velma Lewis and Dorothy Moninger of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law: Eloise Steiner of Carson, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
