Birthplace: Tabor, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa F. Faye Norton, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Frances "Faye" Norton was born October 3, 1916 in Tabor, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Ethel (Runyon) Bayes. Faye grew up in the Strahan area and graduated from Strahan High School. She was a nanny until she was united in marriage to Victor Alonzo Norton on January 15, 1939 in Mills County, Iowa. Victor and Faye farmed in the Red Oak area for many years. Faye worked right alongside Victor with all aspects of the farming operation. She was also known for her wonderful country cooking. Victor and Faye enjoyed yard work and gardening. They even had matching mowers to mow the yard. She was a nature lover and enjoyed watching the birds. Faye also loved playing games including cards and Dominoes. After Victor's death on June 30, 1988, Faye devoted many volunteer hours to the Elementary School System. Faye received the Governor's Volunteer Award in 1996 from Governor Terry Branstad. She was also a former member and volunteer of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Faye was a longtime member of Hawthorne United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Faye's greatest enjoyment came from her family and grandkids. She always took a special interest in whatever they were doing. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Helen Bayes, Ruth Bayes, Opal Bayes, John Bayes, Virginia Hicks, Mildred Phillips, and an infant brother. Survivors include her children: Darlene Isaacson and husband Max of Overland Park, Kansas; Susan Turner of Omaha, Nebraska; Karen Hansen and husband Stephen of Oak Park, California; Linda Frost and husband Robert of Mankato, Minnesota; and Steven Norton and wife Vicki of Lincoln, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Sowers of Emerson, Iowa; Naoma Trively of Glenwood, Iowa; and Clarice Kitchen of Riverside, California; brother-in-law: Allan Norton and wife Dona of Tacoma, Washington; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends including her special friends: Ron and Sandy Gerlt of Emerson, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Malvern, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held 7-8 PM Monday, December 8, 2008 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Faye Norton Memorial Fund which will help support children's programs that were near and dear to Faye's heart. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
