Birthplace: Montgomery County, IA Resided In: Elliott, IA F. Walter "Buffy" Buffon, age 85, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa. Walter was born January 7, 1933 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Floyd and Flora (Haston) Buffon. He graduated from Stennett High School and attended Red Oak Junior College for two years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and returned home where he started his farming career. He was united in marriage to Shirley Knoke Lewis on July 1, 1977 in Elliott, Iowa. They made their home in Elliott. Buffy was a longtime member of the Elliott Church of Christ where he was a Trustee for many years, American Legion, Masonic Lodge where he served in many capacities including Senior Grand Warden of Grand Lodge of Iowa and a Custodian, was a member of Order of Eastern Star, was a former Eagles Club member, served on the Red Oak Rural Fire Department, and was a Reserve Deputy for Montgomery County. Buffy enjoyed bowling and loved doing genealogy. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Shirley Buffon on November 23, 2002; and nephews: Rick and Roger Pendleton. Survivors include his daughter: Diana Petty and husband George of Elliott, IA; grandchildren: Lisa Bailey of Red Oak, IA; Bill Petty and wife Lisa of Stanton, IA; Jodi Petty of Elliott, IA; and Sarah Culver and husband Wade of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Ashley Parker of Council Bluffs, IA; Allison Petty of Elliott, IA; Wyatt Bailey of Red Oak, IA; Dakota Petty of Red Oak, IA; Mary Kate Bailey of Red Oak, IA; Sierra Petty of Red Oak, IA; Dawson Culver of Red Oak, IA; Xavier Olivio of West Point, NY; Clayton Culver of Red Oak, IA; and Cash Culver of Red Oak, IA; great great grandchildren: Tierra Parker, Lane Bailey, and Clarke Bailey; sister: Lois Pendleton and husband Don of Red Oak, IA; nephew: Randy Pendleton and wife Connie of Red Oak, IA; nieces: Linda Huber and husband Steve of Council Bluffs, IA and Amy Pendleton of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Church of Christ in Elliott, Iowa. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Masonic services will be held 6 PM Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
