Birthplace: Coburg, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Evelyn Davis, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Evelyn Davis was born June 8, 1913 in Coburg, Iowa the daughter of Otis and Maude (Marriott) Davis. She was raised in Coburg and graduated from the Coburg High School. She attended Cedar Falls Teachers College where she earned her teaching certificate. Evelyn then taught school at a Coburg country school for 1 year and Coburg school for 1 year. Moving to Cedar Falls she taught at the Cedar Falls Junior High School for 10 years before moving to Lodi, California where she taught for 30 years. Evelyn moved back to Red Oak, Iowa in 1981 and has lived in her own home until the time of her death. Evelyn was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls where she played the piano for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her infant brother; her parents; sister: Helen Maher; Brother: Eldon Davis; sister: Gertrude McClain; 2 nephews: Gene Maher and Jack McClain. Evelyn is survived by many nieces and nephews, including: Helen McCourtney of Mena, Arkansas, Jeanne Harms of Cedar Falls, Deanna Jennings of Emerson, Iowa, Rosamond Tillman of Shenandoah, Iowa, Mary Thompson of Colorado and Jerome Davis of Metairie, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Friday, July 26, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with burial to be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
