Birthplace: Pottawattamie County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Evan M. Perdue, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at his daughter's residence near Carson, Iowa after an extended illness. Evan Merle Perdue was born November 7, 1923 in Grove Township of Pottawattamie County, Iowa near Carson the son of Ira and Leona (Cain) Perdue. Evan attended country school and started as a farm hand after he got out of school. He joined the United States Army during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. Upon his return from the war he again was a hired man for farmers before starting to farm on his own. He was united in marriage to Betty Johnson on February 22, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Stanton, Red Oak, and Elliott before moving to their acreage north of Red Oak where they lived for many years. Betty preceded Evan in death on July 26, 1996. Evan later was united in marriage to Audrey Perdue on April 24, 1999. They moved into Red Oak in 2002. Evan was a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the two cylinder club, and was a former member of the Farm Bureau. Evan enjoyed woodworking, raising miniature horses, and his breakfast and coffee group at Burger King. Evan always loved to visit. Preceding him in death were his parents, and infant brother: Eldon; wife: Betty Perdue; sister: Dorine Billings; and brother: Stanley Perdue. Survivors include his wife: Audrey Perdue of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Joyce Perdue and husband Ron Van Zandbergen of Omaha, Nebraska and Rebecca Lamb and husband Steve of Carson, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Jim Perry of Omaha, Nebraska; Sarah Perry of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Clarissa Lamb of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jeana Lamb of Leesville, Louisiana; brother: Irvin Perdue and wife Helen of Carson, Iowa; sisters: Rosie Dahlin of Torrance, California; Ruth Sperber of Red Oak, Iowa; Kathy Smith and husband Terry of Elliott, Iowa; and Linda Wilkinson and husband Ron of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Odyssey Hospice or the Stratton United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
