Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Eva Louise Smith, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her daughter's residence in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Eva Louise Smith was born January 19, 1920 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Villisca, the daughter of Alick and Flossie (Thurber) Newberg. She grew up in Villisca and was united in marriage to Donald F. Smith on July 28, 1940 in Villisca. Over the years, Eva Louise worked as a cook at several different restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes. She and Donald lived in Wichita for a short time, Kansas City and then Minneapolis until retirement when they moved to Missouri in 1982. In 1991 Eva moved to Red Oak and then to Rogers, Minnesota and back to Red Oak in 1999. She was a resident of Acorn Acres until residing at the nursing home just recently. Eva Louise enjoyed reading mystery books as well as the Bible. She was a wonderful cook and truly enjoyed cooking. She treasured her family and the times they shared together. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Donald on December 8, 1991; siblings: Iva Lee Lawson, Elsie Havens, Gladys Govig, and Delta Shaffer. Survivors include her children: Barbara Foster of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Robert Smith of Chicago, Illinois; and Susan Hill and husband Scott of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters: Emma Kuhn of Villisca, Iowa; Dorothy Briggs of Ohio; and Fern Potter of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers: Wilbur Newberg of Malvern, Iowa; Ray Newberg of Clarinda, Iowa; Roy Newberg of Atlantic, Iowa; and Mahlon Newberg of Kansas City, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa. Family and friends will meet at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 9:30 AM to go to the cemetery in procession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements
