Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Riverview, Florida Eugene Francis Roof, age 65, of Riverview, Florida passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Sun City Hospice Center in Sun City, Florida. Eugene Francis Roof was born January 27, 1947 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Alonzo and Doris (Mertz) Roof. He attended Red Oak Community Schools and entered the United States Army at a young age serving during the Vietnam War. He returned to Red Oak at age 21. He managed the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Red Oak and did some mechanic work in the early years. He was quite talented mechanically and had many different jobs over the years. He lived in many places over the years including Red Oak; Maryville, Missouri; Oklahoma; and for the past 12 years had lived in Florida. Eugene was united in marriage Linda Rolofson on August 21, 1982 in Tyrone, Oklahoma. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed watching football especially Nebraska, woodworking, and fixing anything mechanical. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Donald Roof; and sisters: Charlotte Bake and Betty Brackhahn. Survivors include his wife: Linda Roof of Riverview, FL; sons: Shawn Rolofson of Kansas City, MO and Brentt Hughes of Ft. Worth,TX; brothers: William Roof of Sidney, IA; Frank Roof and wife Betty of Red Oak, IA; Marion Roof and wife Linda of Tabor, IA; Robert Roof of Sidney, IA; and Charles Roof of Red Oak, IA; sister: Anna May Gould of Red Oak, IA; step-mother: Mildred Roof of Red Oak, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Warren and Dixie Rolofson of Red Oak, IA; brothers-in-law: Dean Rolofson and wife Patty of Tarkio, MO; Gayle Rolofson of Maryville, MO; Dan Rolofson and wife Joni of Red Oak, IA; Carey Rolofson and wife Lindy of Platte City, MO; and Steve Rolofson and wife Angie of Platte City, MO; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held 10 AM Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri. Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 PM Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
