Obituary

Birthplace: Orient, Iowa Resided In: Rural Elliott, Iowa Eugene R. "Gene" Parker, age 82, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Eugene Ray "Gene" Parker was born January 2, 1926 in Orient, Iowa the son of Ernest and Cleo (Kimpson) Parker. The family moved to the Grant area in 1932. Gene was a graduate of the Grant High School in 1943. He served in the United States Marines as Corporal from 1944-1946 where he was in the motor dispatch unit. He was united in marriage to Anna Marie Chalmers on September 2, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington. He worked for International Implement in Grant for two years and farmed in the Grant and Elliott areas for over 60 years. Gene was a 60 year member of both the Ruppert Knee American Legion Post in Grant and the Cass Masonic Lodge in Griswold, Iowa. He served on the Grant School Board and was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church where he was a Board Member. Gene enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding Gene in death were his parents; son: Glenn Parker in 1984; sister: Wilma Miller in 2001; and brothers: Bernard Parker in 1966 and Gerald Parker in 2005. Survivors include his wife of 63 years: Anna Marie Parker of Elliott, Iowa; daughter: Patricia Stonehocker and husband Floyd of Griswold, Iowa; son: James Parker and wife Linda of Grant, Iowa; grandchildren: David Stonehocker of Butte, Montana; Wendy Herzberg and husband Jeff of Sibley, Iowa; Matthew Parker and wife Amber of Hopkins, Missouri; and Melody Parker of Grant, Iowa; great grandchildren: Spencer, Tucker, Ellie, Cloie, Gabbie, and Sophie Herzberg; and Olivia and Angeline Parker. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery. There will be a Masonic Service held at 6 PM Saturday, August 30, 2008 with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Grant American Legion or the Elliott United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
