Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ethel Richards, age 101, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. Ethel E. Richards was born October 8, 1901 in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Mary Swiger. Ethel was raised in Montgomery County and graduated from Red Oak High School. She was united in marriage to Lester Richards on February 17, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa. Ethel served as Montgomery County Deputy Clerk of District Court and then as Deputy Recorder before being elected as County Recorder. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Red Oak and a lifelong resident of Red Oak. She has lived at the Stanton Care Center for the past six years. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Lester Richards on December 10, 1998; sister: Luella Mains; and brother: Clarence Swiger. Survivors include: one niece: Lorraine Anderson and husband Calvin of Nevada, Iowa; one nephew: Richard Law and wife Betty of Owings Mills, MD; four grand nieces; three grand nephews; four great grand nieces and eight great grand nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
