Birthplace: Cromwell, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ethel M. Miller, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Ethel Merle Miller was born March 23, 1926 near Cromwell, Iowa the daughter of Archie and Lee (Odell) McCafferty. She was raised near Cromwell and attended school there thru the 10th grade at which time the family moved to Creston. Ethel graduated from Creston High School in 1943. She worked at the Creston hardware store and Miller Buick dealership before her marriage to Orville W. "Soapy" Miller on January 22, 1948 in Creston, Iowa. They lived in Creston for a very short time before moving to Red Oak, Iowa. Ethel started working for the Iowa Power and Light Company retiring in 1985 after 37 years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Iowa Power Retiree Breakfast Club, the Friendship Club, the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a great supporter over the years of the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Orville Miller on January 5, 1994; brother: Gayle McCafferty and his wife Marian; great niece: Julie Hanson; and brothers-in-law: Cecil Looney and Lester Miller and his wife Opal. Survivors include her sisters: Alice M. Johnson and husband Duane of Murray, Iowa and Mary Looney of Urbandale, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Karyn Pickering and husband Carol of Grant City, Missouri; Bonnie Phillips and husband Russ of Unionville, Missouri; Kelly McCafferty and wife Julie of Moline, Illinois; Steve Looney and wife Carol of Urbandale, Iowa; Greg Johnson and wife Nancy of Ankeny, Iowa; Gloria Maffett and husband Tom of Lorimor, Iowa; Dana Stonehocker and husband Dave of Thayer, Iowa; Kevin Johnson and wife Claudia of Cazenovia, New York; and Carol Mitchell and husband Raymond of Oskaloosa, Iowa; many great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends including special friends: Dennis and Sharon Youngberg of Red Oak, Iowa ; and Ethel was an honorary grandmother to Trisha Gray and husband Andy and their children: Hannah and Maggie; and Melisa Baier and husband Fritz and their daughter Paige all of Red Oak, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church, the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor, or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
