Birthplace: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Ethel M. Anderson, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Ethel Marjorie Anderson was born April 12, 1918 west of Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Mary Grace (Smith) Rhodes. The family moved to Missouri when Ethel was an infant and then moved back to Iowa when Ethel was seven years old. She attended school at Stennett and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1936. Ethel worked at the Thomas D. Murphy Company until her marriage to Willard Anderson on February 24, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived and farmed all of their lives northwest of Red Oak. Ethel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Summit Hill Club. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling, but most of all cherished the time she spent with her family. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers: Duane and Bill Rhodes and her husband: Willard Anderson on March 7, 2008. Survivors include her son: Dr. Ron Anderson and wife Mary of Jackson, Missouri; daughter: Rita Martinez and husband Richard of St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren: Cami Pisoni and husband Paul of Parkville, Missouri; Andrea Peters and husband Steve of St. Louis, Missouri; Ryan Anderson and wife Lyndsy of Kansas City, Missouri; Jeff Martinez of St. Joseph, Missouri; and Heather Martinez of St. Joseph, Missouri; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Jim Rhodes and wife Ellen of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association or the St. Mary's Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
