Birthplace: Mills County, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Estle Darby, age 92, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness. Estle Dee Darby was born July12, 1916 in Anderson Township of Mills County, Iowa the son of Samuel Monroe and Hattie Myrtle (Hooper) Darby. He was raised near Henderson, Iowa until about the age of fifteen when the family moved to Hermitage, Missouri where they lived for a short time before moving back to Henderson. Estle attended Henderson High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Wilhelm on January 31, 1940 in Glenwood, Iowa. They farmed for near Emerson, Iowa for many years as well as selling Moorman's Feeds. Estle also did carpentry work for many years. When they retired they moved to Branson, Missouri until 1995 when they moved back to Emerson. Dorothy preceded Estle in death on March13, 2007. Estle was a member of the Emerson Masonic Lodge, the Community Club, and the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, square dancing and traveling. Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Otha Lee Mellott and husband Ken of Anaheim, California; Patricia Christen and husband Dale of Salinas, California; Kenneth Ray Darby and wife Annette of Yorba Linda, California; Donald Darby and wife Shirley of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Frances Shelley and husband Gary of Estes Park, Colorado; Rachel Darby of Emerson, Iowa; special friends: Gordon and Barbara Frink of Henderson, Iowa; a young lady whom Estle and Dorothy raised for six years: Glenda Simmons of California; brother-in-law: Charles "Bud" Wilhelm of Hastings, Iowa; sister-in-law: Florence Wilhelm of Hastings, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-7:30 PM Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Masonic Lodge or the Henderson Cemetery Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
